Barryroe 2-07 Kilmacabea 2-07
In a game that had a bit of everything Barryroe and Kilmacabea shared the spoils in this highly entertaining Junior C Football group game played in Páirc Uí Mhurchú on Saturday evening last. The visitors quickly set the tempo and struck for a major in the opening exchanges, Barryroe regrouped and led 1-04 to 1-01 at the short whistle, Gavin Sweetman with the goal.
The game took on a life of its own in the closing stages when the visitors clawed back a five-point deficit and took the lead with two minutes remaining, despite missing a penalty mid-way through the half. The home side battled bravely and a well-worked move down the left flank found Steve Madden lurking and he expertly found the corner despite the despairing dive of the Kilmac netminder. Barryroe led by two with the clock ticking into the red. Back came the visitors and struck for their own major to throw another twist in this epic closing quarter. Barryroe were down but not out and in the fifth minute of added time it was supersub John Sheehy who struck for a well-taken point to tie up proceedings with the last action of the game. Players and supporters were out on their feet as the referee brought an end to a highly entertaining game between two very committed teams.
