AGM Report 2024
15 December, 2024
The Club AGM occurred on Friday night the 13th of December in Butlerstown Community Centre. The Chairperson, Eoin McCarthy, welcomed all present and thanked them for their attendance.
The minutes of the 2023 AGM were taken as read, followed by the Secretary’s report for 2024. Richard Murphy, our secretary, was complimented by the chairperson for presenting such a detailed report. The Secretary report comprehensively reviewed all playing action for the 2024 season and much discussion revolved around the performances of the adult hurling and football squads over the 2024 season. Special mention in the Scretary's report was also reserved for our underage members who donned the red jersey during the year. In particular, Luke Murphy was singled out for praise for being actively involved with both intercounty minor panels. An incredible achievement and is a testament to Luke's skill and determination.
November also saw an award for off-field activities. Danny Buckley our Irish and Cultural Officer travelled to Croke Park to accept a Bronze award from the Joseph McDonnacha Foundation. This medal is evidence of Danny's continuous efforts to integrate the Irish language into the club's activities and to foster its growth among members and the Barryroe community. Comhghairdeas Danny.
The Secretary Report also covered the ground maintenance and development over 2024. Special mention and praise were reserved for our scheme workers, Kenneth Santry and Ali Al-Rubaye, along with volunteers who regularly maintain the wash facilities. 2024 saw further Grounds Development with improvement works to the existing walkway paths, and new lighting to ball alley. The club reserved a special thanks to local councillor, John O'Sullivan for his advice and guidance on grant applications throughout the year and to the Development Committee Chaired by John Fleming. We wish John O'Sullivan the best in his retirement from public service. It is envisaged that 2025 will see development works to our second pitch commence mid-summer, all under the auspices of our recently awarded Sports Capital Grant.
The PRO Report was briefly reviewed by John O'Leary where the main item of note was the performance [reach] of the website and social media channels over the 2024 season. This year also saw a new initiative with the tracking of player records. A document was issued in September whereby every football championship result, appearance, and scorer from the period of 2003 to 2024 inclusive can be reviewed.
This was followed by the treasurer’s report which was presented by our treasurer, Michael Coleman. The report outlined the financial situation of the club for the year ending 31st October 2024. The decline of club lotto sales during the Covid-19 pandemic is still to be recovered, although sales saw a good increase during 2024. Michael encouraged all supporters of the Club to regularly purchase tickets. Michael thanked all those who purchased horses for the annual race night which was to occur on Saturday 14th December in The Pier House, Courtmacsherry. Coupled with the generosity of our sponsors, this fundraiser provided a much-needed boost to the club's finances. The Rebel Bounty draw has now evolved as a key source of alternative club funding during the calendar year. Similar to the race night, 2024 saw record sales and Michael thanked all club members for their subscriptions. The increased sales resulted in 2 winners during the year. We hope our luck will improve further in 2025.
The final item on the financial agenda was the setting of membership fees for 2025 and they were confirmed as follows;
- Full member [playing] €100
- Full member [playing, student] €50
- Full member [non-playing] €50
- Social member €40
- Youth member €50
It was reconfirmed that the ability to renew membership is available online and all previous players should be encouraged to continue to support the club.
The Chairperson then said a few words and thanked his fellow officers and committee members for all their efforts during the year. The Chairperson also thanked the various teams and their mentors for their efforts. He expressed the hope that our current crop of players at the adult level will continue on the upward curve. Away from the playing fields, Eoin remarked on the passing of many of our loyal supporters during 2024.
One of the final acts of the night was the election of officers whereby all outgoing officers were returned uncontested.
