Cardiff Hall 100th year Commemoration

07 January, 2025

On next Sunday Jan 12th at 3pm in Butlerstown Hall, local historians Michael O Brien, Brian O Dwyer and others will recall “The Night of the Cardiff Hall”, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its sinking off the Seven Heads on the night of Jan 13th 1925.

All are welcome to hear this fascinating account of one of the most significant tragedies off our local coastline, when the maize carrying Ship of 3,944 tonnes floundered in atrocious conditions on the Shoonta Rock outside Travara Cove with the loss of the entire 28 crew.

Sunday will commence a very special year for Courtmacsherry Lifeboat, as the Station celebrates the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the first RNLI Lifeboat to Ireland, “The Plenty”, to Courtmacsherry in 1825.
