Dessie Fitzgerald "Mind our Minds"

16 February, 2025

Barryroe GAA Club has organised for a special guest to attend Courtmacsherry Community Centre on Friday, February 28th, at 8 pm and give a talk about mental health and resilience.

Dessie Fitzgerald is a former Cork inter-county player, winning a Munster medal with Cork minors in 2000, in
2001 Dessie won a Harty Cup and an All-Ireland Medal with St. Colman’s College. In 2000 and 2004 he won All-Ireland medals with Cork Intermediates. Dessie played a staring role in Charleville's quest for Junior Hurling honours in 2007 where they were defeated in an epic final by our famous county-winning team.

Not too many years afterwards at the age of 29 and all in the space of 14 months, Dessie suffered the devastating loss of two brothers as well as incurring a spinal cord injury himself, all in three separate incidents.

Now a motivational speaker, Dessie will speak on the night about the power of the human mind and the impact it can have when we “Mind our Minds”. Topics include Resilience, Vulnerability, Decision Making, Goal Setting, Beliefs and Gratitude. Dessie will discuss how these topics have helped get his life back on track. It promises to be a great event with all attendees expected to come away with some valuable learnings.

The event is free, open to the public and sponsored by Barryroe GAA club. It will commence at 8 pm sharp. It is an event not to be missed and we hope to see you there.

Our friends at Courtmacsherry Rowing Club are hosting a table quiz which occurs immediately afterwards, at 9:30 pm in the Pier House. Please support.
